The CBCI Credential

The BCI offers the Certificate of the BCI (CBCI). This entry-level of certified Membership of the BCI, can be achieved by studying for and passing the Certificate of the BCI (CBCI) Examination. This is ideal for professionals seeking a credential in business continuity (BC). Preparation to sit the exam can best be done by taking an instructor-led classroom based CBCI Certification training course and sitting the examination, usually in a paper and pencil format, at the end of the course (Total course plus exam is completed in 3 days)

These instructor led courses are approximately 32 hours learning, completed in a classroom which is a step-by-step study of the complete Business Continuity Management (BCM) Lifecycle and improving organizational resilience. These courses offer a solid description of the methods, techniques and approaches used by BC professionals worldwide to develop, implement and maintain an effective BCM programme.

What students appreciate most in these training courses is the interaction, not only with the instructor, but also with the other students, obtaining invaluable experience and real-life examples.

It is however also possible to take the CBCI online training and then taking the new online CBCI exam securely at your own computer (2 hour sessions, twice a week for 8 weeks). Completing this self-paced eLearning training course ‘Building Resilience’ will provide you with a more generic overview of what Business Continuity is all about with references to the Good Practice Guidelines. When used as exam preparation, this course must be complemented with in-depth self-study of the Good Practice Guidelines. Please see www.thebci.org for more information on this option.

The CBCI credential offers a wide range of value added benefits

Professional Competency: The CBCI credential is an assurance that professionals have the full knowledge and understanding of the theory of global good practice BC. This theory is based on the Good Practice Guidelines (aligned to ISO 22301) the global guide to good practice in Business Continuity. It is also ideal for professionals who wish to begin or move into a career where they must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of good practice in BC.

Employer Recognition: The CBCI credential is an internationally respected certification. This gives you a professional edge with employers around the world recognising the value of your credentials.  Employers also have the added benefit of having certified practitioners which can help towards achieving alignment or certification to ISO 22301, or to demonstrate enhanced levels of resilience which can give them the edge over their competition or help them to meet industry regulations.

Professional Status: The CBCI is a certified grade of BCI membership which recognises your professional status. Upon passing the examination at the appropriate level, and subject to proof of professional experience, you will be entitled to progress to the grade of Member of the BCI (MBCI) or an Associate Member of the BCI (AMBCI). BCI Membership unlocks a whole suite of benefits that help you advance in your career.

*Please note that certification is only valid for three years and is subject to an annual maintenance fee.

Get BCI Certified

Passing the Certificate of the Business Continuity Institute (CBCI) examination is the first step in getting BCI Certified.

The Certificate of the BCI (CBCI) examination tests a candidate’s knowledge of the Good Practice Guidelines the comprehensive, independent body of knowledge for business continuity. Passing this examination leads to CBCI – Certified by the Business Continuity Institute and certified membership of the Institute. BCI Certification gives you an internationally recognised credential in Business Continuity (BC) awarded by the leading membership and certifying organization for BC professionals worldwide.

The CBCI examination can be taken in two ways, by Paper and Pencil at the end of the BCI Good Practice Guidelines classroom based Training Course, or by a secure online examination taken from your own computer. All you need is a webcam and fast internet access.

To request a copy of the Candidate Information Pack for comprehensive details on how to prepare for the exam and what to expect on the day, please check www.thebci.org or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

The CBCI certification is valid for three years and is subject to an annual membership fee which is set at the same level as Associate Member (AMBCI). However, the majority of those professionals successful in achieving the CBCI and who have gained sufficient experience in business continuity, generally progress to a more senior level of membership of the institute at AMBCI or MBCI grade. The CBCI therefore provides the perfect launching pad for candidates seeking to progress their career and is an integral part of the application process for senior grades. The CBCI Certification is valid for three years, and if the progression to more senior level membership has not occurred within this time, holders of the CBCI certification will be required to re-sit the Certificate of the BCI (CBCI) Examination to demonstrate currency of knowledge.

Testimonial

"I recently attended the CBCI preparation course - run over an extended weekend - by ContinuityGroup Asia.  As a risk professional focusing on physical security I had some prior knowledge of the BS 25999 process and approached the training with some initial skepticism.  However I found the course interesting and illuminating, particularly in identifying the stages of the BIA process and referencing these to Client operations, as well as illustrating the practical output.  I would definitely recommend the training to anyone seeking either to understand the theory of BCM, or as preparation to obtain a credential to underpin their current practice." - Damian Ryan (ARUP), April 2016
