About the Conference

What is the Hong Kong Business Continuity Conference?

The vision of an annual HK BCI Conference is to share and recognize that conferences are a good platform to assist Business Continuity practitioners to gather to widen their knowledge and network in the BCM industry.

David James-Brown - Vice-Chair of the BCI Global Membership Council, founding director and Vice President of the Business Continuity Institute (Australasia) Ltd, Queensland State Representative of the BCI, and co-founder of the Queensland BCI Forum.

Biography:  David is a graduate of IT and Commerce and a Fellow of the Business Continuity Institute.  He has a business management background and is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.  Over the last 20 years he has provided contingency and recovery planning, information audit, security and risk management services to a range of public and private sector organisations globally. These include financial institutions, airlines, logistics, health care providers, transport and ports, governments and telecommunications providers.

David has held executive positions in the Financial and Services sectors with global responsibility for Risk Management, Business Continuity, Compliance, Insurance and Information Technology.  He is also a key Business Continuity advisor to a number of federal and state government agencies. He is a regular speaker on business continuity and risk management and has country specific experience in the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, PNG, Middle East, SE Asia and the Pacific region.

Willem A. Hoekstra - BCI Hong Kong Forum leader. Head of BCM Asia ex-Japan, Nomura International (HK) Ltd. Chair of HKFSBCM Forum.

Biography: Willem A. Hoekstra started his career with ABN AMRO bank in 1998, running Management Accounting and other COO projects. In 2001, he met with Business Continuity Management for the first time. He has since run BCM programs for Head Office as well as Regional environments in consecutively ABN AMRO, RBS, Societe Generale and currently Nomura, where he is also responsible for Corporate Security. Willem holds an MBA, a Dutch master’s degree in Communication Science, and a Propeadeuse degree in Economics. He has both presented and participated at numerous conferences and seminars on BCM and related topics, around the globe. Willem is currently Chair on the HK Financial Services BCM Forum, and Hong Kong forum leader of the BCI.

Mike Groves - Hill and Associates

Biography: Mike Groves assumed the role of Country Manager of Hill & Associates Hong Kong in January 2011. He is responsible for managing all aspects of Hill & Associates' business in Hong Kong with an additional focus on developing business in "Greater China". Mike completed a 28 year career in the Hong Kong Police Force, rising to directorate rank. During his service Mike commanded the VIP Protection Unit; the Tactical Unit (Counter Terrorist and Public Security); and police operations along the Land Boundary between Hong Kong and Mainland China. He participated in and led delegations overseas including discussions on major cross boundary security-related issues with senior Mainland officials. Mike held leading operational roles during Hong Kong’s handover to China in 1997 and during meetings of the World Bank, IMF and WTO. Mike represented specific interests of the Police Force at Hong Kong's Legislative Council and was responsible for implementing new legislation. Mike is British and holds a BSc degree from Leeds University in the UK.

With the benefit of this perspective, we examine some pivotal moments during which the narrative might have been different if for a few simple considerations. Far from being rocket science, remembering to apply rudimentary business continuity concepts might have given the evil Galactic Empire a fighting chance against the massed forces of the Alliance.  

 

Martin Lerigo - Chairman of the Overseas Security Advisory Committee (OSAC)

Biography: Martin Lerigo joined Cisco in 2007 as Director for Strategic Relations in the Global Brand Protection Division. 

In this role Martin led a global effort to mitigate the counterfeiting of Cisco products and the prevention of grey market activity.  In 2009 he became Vice-Chair of leading trade association, ‘Quality Brands Protection Committee (QBPC)’.  In this role he attended meetings with high profile politicians and enforcement figures including then Vice-Premier Wang Qishan, US Attorney General Michael Mukasey and US IP Tsar Victoria Espinel.

Today, Martin is Cisco’s Director of Safety, Security & Business Resiliency (SSBR) for Asia, focused on protecting employees, property, revenue and physical assets.  This effort has resulted in the development of an industry leading Global Incident Management Program highlighted in a Bloomberg/BusinessWeek© article on “CEO Disaster Preparedness”.  Martin has presented on ‘Incident Management in the Modern Corporation’ at several conferences around the globe and is current Chairman of the Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) in Hong Kong. 

Prior to joining Cisco, Martin was a career diplomat with the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office, serving in Beijing, Nicosia and Hong Kong, his last posting, where he served as Consul (political) from 2003-2007.  

Martin is a graduate of Cardiff University, Wales, where he received a Bachelor of Engineering degree with honours.

Leigh Farina - BCM HSBC

Biography: Leigh Farina is an experienced business continuity and crisis management professional who has delivered cyber crisis exercises for C-Suite response teams across the globe in her role as a consultant. She has response experience to a number of crises, including technology disruption and cyber attacks. Leigh now works for HSBC in Asia, but has previously worked across all industry sectors and for businesses of all sizes.

Danny Chow - Continuity Planning and Response Specialist for the Airline Industry

Biography: Born in Hong Kong and moved to Vancouver, B.C., Canada at 2yrs old. Education and training reflects DBCI = BCI Diploma; BA in Geography, MBA in Marketing, MEmergMgt in Crisis & Risk Management and background in accounting, computer hardware & software, construction and graphics design. Before moving to Hong Kong in 2000, I had three proprietorships - accounting, computer retail and corporate training in Canada. More than 15 years with Cathay Pacific Airways, I worked in various Emergency & Accident (EnA) duties / roles. Hired as a Crisis Management Trainer / Instructor but I also played a key role in the Crisis Management / CARE Team programme design, content and protocols before moving into Emergency Response Development for the airline. Currently, my job oversees the EnA Policies, Procedures and Infrastructure which reflects our Stations’ EnA Response protocols and emergency plans as well as our Hong Kong crisis response / handling protocols re Crisis Response (CRC) and Business Continuity (CBCC) Centres. I was part of the BCM design & launch team in Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. As well as its continued BCP Support.

Anna Chan - Marketing Director, North Asia, Akamai Technologies

Biography: Anna Chan joins Akamai as Marketing Director, North Asia. Anna has worked for a number of IT & security networking companies and startups, including Infoblox, Cisco Systems, Juniper Networks, and NetScreen Technologies.

Anna is an experienced marketing practitioner and has extensive experience in field and channel marketing, demand generation, industry marketing, and public relations across APJ. She has extensive knowledge in marketing strategy, planning and implantation including evangelising a med to long term strategy to develop and accelerate new customer acquisition.

Anna speaks at both internal and external events. Recently, she was invited to speak at the China Brand Congress in Shanghai (Jan 2016) and presented opening keynote at the Holiday eShopper Conference in Hong Kong (Oct 2015).
